Principles for
deploying the units
Pictoform®
guideline system consists of a series of paving stones with the
declared intention
of assisting the blind and visually impaired in traversing the
city.
The paving stones are appliccable for a
lot of purposes. They can form a guideline, mark - by the use of a dome
area - the shift, for instance from a sidewalk to the roadway, indicate bus
stops etc.
Particularly the traffic junctions and
town centers with their open squares and pedestrian streets may need the
guideline system.
Pictoform® is placed following natural courses and tangible to
foot and cane.
Both the shape of the patterns and the returned sound of the mobility
cane's touching the stones, are a part of guiding the blind and visually impaired.
In planning the guidelines, a few important principles must be observed. The
system must be able to show a secure route, the guideline, and a secure
stop - the dome area attention field - which informs of a change. This
change might be that the guideline has come to an end, but it can also
signify a change of direction, a pedestrian crossing, a sale of
tickets, an elevator or similar, whereupon the guideline is resumed.
There must be enough room on both sides of
the guideline.
It should be traversable in both directions, thus needing an attention
field in both ends.
An attention field can be established without a guideline, but the line
cannot exist without the attention field. |
